EMDR INTENSIVES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS
Accelerated care to feel better now
What is an EMDR intensive?
An EMDR intensive is a customized, premium therapy experience that consists of a group of EMDR sessions compacted together. It is an accelerated form of therapy that is a highly efficient way of targeting specific issues for rapid change, to feel better now. This is a shift in the traditional therapy model, giving you more flexibility in how you receive support.
An EMDR intensive saves time by getting more done in a condensed way than in a weekly therapy format. This is suitable for clients who want a lot of change quickly, and are ready to do get to work straight away. It’s also a great solution for clients whose schedule is demanding and unpredictable, thereby making weekly therapy sessions challenging.
What issues can EMDR Intensives address?
EMDR addresses the psychological and physical symptoms stemming from adverse life experiences, such as:
Specific fears and phobias.
Panic attacks.
Creative blocks.
Single incident traumas (natural disasters, vehicular accidents, physical/sexual trauma terrorism or crime incidents)
Complex PTSD.
Attachment and relational trauma.
And additionally for teen clients: bullying, social exclusion, effects of divorce, bereavement.
Why an intensive instead of a normal 50-minute psychotherapy session?
EMDR intensives allow the opportunity to progress through your symptoms in a more succinct and focused way without the constriction of a 50-minute session. An intensive format may decrease overall treatment time because of time not spent on: a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that won’t be needed after healing, or d) assistance regaining composure at the end of each session.
Your Intensive includes:
Pre-consultation interview to assess for candidacy, as well as identifying unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief. (Either virtual or in person.)
Collaboration with your primary therapist to streamline therapy and co-ordinate care.
A customized treatment program with targeted treatment goals. Therapy for intensives with Claudia is done in person only, often for 4-8 sessions hours.
Post treatment write-up detailing your intensive.
Optional post-treatment interview to assess and support your adaptation to positive changes from treatment.
Intensives are offered in packages of 4, 6 and 8 hours.
If I already have a primary therapist, can I do an EMDR intensive as adjunct therapy?
Yes. I regularly collaborate with primary therapists and find this to be an advantageous model. Maybe you have gained insights through talk therapy, yet you feel dysregulated or stuck, so you’re curious about how adjunct EMDR intensive therapy can help. We will identify what format is best for you during your initial consultation. Please note, adolescent clients must have a primary therapist if engaging in an intensive.
What can I expect to accomplish in an intro 4 hour intensive?
An intro 4 hour intensive offers a multitude of resources and can help to focus to a specific phobia. or significantly decrease the devastating effects of single event trauma (e.g. negative cognitions, disturbing emotions and body sensations.) While significant healing can occur in this length intensive, Complex PTSD deserves more treatment. Many of my clients experiencing Complex PTSD may continue to work on their trauma histories through monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly half-day intensives.
What can I expect to accomplish in a 6 or 8 hour EMDR Intensive?
Participating in a 6 or 8 hour EMDR intensive may create impactful change more efficiently than just weekly, 50-minute sessions or a 4 hour intensive. We will identify what format is best for you during your initial consultation.
Do I have to live in California to do an EMDR intensive?
No. California law only requires that the client be present in California for therapy at the time of treatment. Out of state and international clients may opt to fly in for intensives.
Can my insurance help pay for this program?
Yes. Many insurance companies reimburse a significant portion of the cost of psychotherapy. For insurance purposes, I am considered an out-of-network provider. It's best to determine the exact details of your policy ahead of time, including what benefits are available regarding out-of-network providers and if your insurance will reimburse several hours of therapy in one day or one week. I will provide you with a Superbill for all direct contact therapy services included in the program. If you require specific CPT code information to check with insurance ahead of time, please request them from me.
